In August of 1981, The EMS workers held an emergency union meeting at District Councel 37's headquarters in NYC.The members were tired of the deplorable working conditions and low pay. We were set to go out on strike! Victor Gotbaum the head of DC 37 told us "If you strike, you will all be fired!
You see, the week before members of PATCO, (The Air Traffic Controllers) were fired by president Ronald Regan, 48 hours after they went on strike. and the same thing will happen to you. The scare worked & we never went on strike.
