The Windsor Hotel Blaze March 17,1899, Fifth Ave. & 46th Street. During the St.Patrick's day parade a fire broke out at the Windsor Hotel. Large Crowds hampered firefighters. Within 20 minutes five alarms were transmitted. Firefighters made numerous spectacular rescues (Top Photo). Within an hour the building was a pile of rubble.(Bottom Photo of first collapse) 92 persons perished in the blaze.
